LUCKI – Total

In an ordinary shop, the word sits at the bottom of a receipt, after every item has been counted and nothing more can be added. In a conversation it is the word people use when they want to close a point, as in that is the whole situation, done. Both meanings are about reaching the end of something.

A rapper who calls a record total is leaving a lot of room. It could be the sum of a relationship, a bank balance, a year or a whole attitude. The title does not choose, and that makes it easy to project your own situation onto it. You can imagine different songs behind it depending on what you are going through.

One word titles are also a confident choice. They do not explain themselves, they do not try to sell the listener anything, and they trust the music to carry the meaning. LUCKI is from Chicago and has leaned towards a hazy, understated style, so that kind of minimal naming feels in character.

It is the sort of record you play when you are adding things up in your head, the money, the people, the plans, and trying to see where you stand.
