LUCKI – All Wock

Wock is slang taken from Wockhardt, a brand name linked to promethazine and codeine syrup. Nigerian readers know the other side of that story too. Codeine misuse became such a serious problem here that the government had to step in over how cough syrup was sold, and many families still remember why.

A line like all wock can be read two ways. In rap it is usually a flex, a badge of a certain lifestyle. Outside the booth it is a warning for anybody paying attention. Nobody needs the record to settle that argument, because the title already holds both readings at once.

LUCKI comes from Chicago and his name is tied to a hazy, drifting style of rap, so a subject like this sits comfortably in his world. That fit between the title and the artist is what makes the choice feel natural and not forced.

Whoever presses play should be able to tell the difference between a mood in a song and a habit in real life. Music can paint the first one beautifully. The second one is a different matter entirely, and the people around you usually notice it before you do.
