OGB Recent – Debit Ft. Cartel Omebo

Everybody knows the small shock of that message. You were sure the account had money, then the phone buzzes and the balance says otherwise. In a country where transfers fail, charges appear from nowhere and salary disappears before the month ends, the word carries humour and pain at once. People joke about it in group chats because crying about it would take too long.

That is what makes it a rich title. It can be about spending, a night out that cost more than planned, or a relationship that quietly takes from you and gives little back. In street talk, being debited can also mean being drained of energy or peace by someone who keeps asking for more. One word covers a wallet and a heart.

I will not pretend to describe production details or lyrics I cannot confirm, but the title suggests a record with attitude, probably leaning on Pidgin storytelling and loud confidence. OGB Recent is a name tied to the Benin and Edo street music scene, and Cartel Omebo on the credits adds a second voice, which suits a subject that always sounds funnier when a friend joins in.

There is a small honesty in how plain it is. Everybody has been debited by something. By the time a friend texts you Debit with a crying emoji at the end of the month, you will know exactly what happened to the salary.

Anyone who has watched their balance fall faster than their plans will see themselves in the idea. It suits payday weekends, late night gist and any hangout where people compare how broke they are.
