Gaba Cannal – Church Boy Ft. Djy Jaivane
Sunday morning meets Saturday night in the title of Church Boy, where Gaba Cannal is joined by Djy Jaivane on the uYena, Pt. 2 album.
Every Nigerian knows a church boy. He sings in the choir, arrives early with a clean shirt and carries a Bible without embarrassment. He is also the one everybody expects to behave, which is why people get so excited when he shows up at a party. The label is part compliment, part teasing, and it follows a person for years.
That contrast is what makes the title interesting. A dance record about someone raised with discipline suggests a story about holding two worlds together, or about the surprise when the quiet one finally cuts loose. Djy Jaivane is the credited guest, and the track sits on uYena, Pt. 2. I will not describe the beat or the vocals, since I cannot vouch for those details and your own ears are the fair judge.
It suits the friend who prays hard on Sunday and dances harder on Friday, and sees no problem with either.
