Dlala Thukzin – Wela Ft. Tracy & JNR DE ROCKA
Here is a word that sounds like an invitation to the dance floor: Wela, from Dlala Thukzin, featuring Tracy and JNR DE ROCKA on Ember.
Short titles have a special power in dance music. They are easy to chant, easy to remember and easy to shout across a crowded room. Nobody has to learn a long phrase before joining in. In Nigeria we know the same effect from one word hooks that everyone suddenly knows at every owambe and club.
I would not claim a full translation of the word, because that is better left to speakers of the language, but the sound of it carries energy. Tracy and JNR DE ROCKA share the credits, so there are two guest voices to bring different flavours. The track belongs to the Ember project, and I will not describe the beat or the delivery, since I cannot vouch for those details.
It suits the middle of a good night, when the crowd is loose and the only thing left to do is move.
