Gaba Cannal – Savoy Gardens Ft. London Roots Boiz

Gardens, in a title, suggest calm, greenery and a slower pace. Savoy adds a touch of class, the kind of name you expect on a hotel, a ballroom or a fancy estate. Together they paint a picture of an upscale hangout where people dress well and speak softly. Anybody who has been to a polished garden party knows the feeling of being on your best behaviour with a cold drink in hand.

The guest credit adds a second geography. London Roots Boiz point toward the UK, and the link between South African dance music and London’s scene has been strong for years. Records that cross cities like this show how far the sound has travelled. I will not describe the production, the vocals or the arrangement, since I cannot vouch for those details and your own ears are the fair judge.

It belongs to the sunny afternoon that turns into evening without anyone noticing.
