UZONDI – NGIZE
Short titles can hold a lot, and NGIZE is a good example. UZONDI keeps it brief, and the song appears on the WENKULUNKULU album.
The word is in the first person in isiZulu, with the speaker speaking about themselves. It carries a sense of arrival, of having come or being present for a reason. When a person says something like this, it usually means they have a purpose, whether it is to ask, to give, to make peace or to settle a matter.
That makes it a title with plenty of everyday pictures attached. Think of someone walking into a family meeting, a visitor reaching a compound gate, or a person showing up at a job interview. Each of them has a reason for being there, and each would explain it a little differently. It is the kind of statement that opens a conversation.
I also like how confident a one-word title feels. There is no hesitation in it and no long explanation. The speaker just announces themselves and leaves the rest to follow. In a project where many titles are questions or confessions, a plain statement of presence gives variety.
Anyone who has had to show up for a person or a cause, even when they were nervous, will understand the mood. NGIZE is a small word that leaves a lot to the listener’s imagination, and that is exactly what a good title should do.
