Mr Thela – Project 99
A number in a title always raises questions, and Mr Thela leaves one hanging with Project 99, a solo record on the INTSIKA (KING OF GQOM) album.
People will guess at the meaning. It could be a year, a code name, a street address or a personal reference only a few friends understand. Numbers work that way in music. They make a title feel like an inside joke, and listeners enjoy trying to decode it. In Nigeria we have seen the same with area codes, house numbers and bus routes that become part of a person’s identity.
The word project adds another layer. It can mean a work in progress, a housing estate or a plan being built step by step. Each reading gives the title a slightly different mood, and I would not claim to know which one is intended. I will not describe the sound or the arrangement here, since I cannot vouch for those details and your own ears are the fair judge.
It suits anyone who likes a little mystery with their music and enjoys working out the story behind a name.
