Mr Thela – Above The Clouds
Big dreams get a high altitude on Above The Clouds, a solo record from Mr Thela on the INTSIKA (KING OF GQOM) album.
The picture is easy to see. Anybody who has taken a flight on a rainy day knows the strange moment when the plane breaks through the grey and suddenly the sun is shining. Below, the storm carries on. Above, everything is calm and bright. It is a wonderful image for success, for peace or for the feeling of leaving your problems on the ground.
For Nigerians it also touches a particular hope. Many of us are working towards a life where the daily stress no longer follows us, and the clouds are a fair symbol of that distance. The title can also be read as pride, a producer saying he has gone further than the crowd. I will not describe the beat or the arrangement here, since I cannot vouch for those details and your own ears are the fair judge.
It fits the moment you finally get good news after a long stretch of waiting, and the road ahead looks clear.
