DrummeRTee924 – Sunday Soulified Ft. Djybee 310

For many Nigerians, Sunday starts early with church clothes, a crowded car and rice waiting at home afterwards. For others it is the one day nobody expects anything from them. Either way, it has a feeling that no other day has, slower and softer, and a bit sentimental. Adding “Soulified” to it is a smart touch. It makes the day sound like something that has been given extra warmth, like a Sunday that has been turned into a mood.

The record is on The Upcomings, and Djybee 310 is the featured name beside DrummeRTee924. What stands out to me is how the title borrows an everyday setting instead of reaching for something dramatic. Sunday Soulified paints a picture before the music even starts, which is a good trick for a title because the listener walks in already holding a scene.

Titles like this work because they ask you to remember your own Sundays. Mine involve the smell of food and a television somebody has forgotten to turn off.

It is a record for that slow stretch of the afternoon, when the work has stopped, the house is quiet and you finally let your shoulders drop.
