DrummeRTee924 – Is Just A Bass (Cyborg) Ft. TheBunny04

The phrasing is what makes it. “Is just a bass” sounds like someone brushing off a big thing, the way a person says “it is only small chop” while carrying a full tray. It plays down the importance of the bass while the bracket quietly gives it a robot identity. A cyborg is part human and part machine, which makes the whole thing feel a bit cheeky. It says the bass is simple, and also not simple at all.

I like that contrast because it shows personality. Is Just A Bass (Cyborg) sits on the album The Upcomings, and TheBunny04 appears here as well as on another record from the same project, so the two seem to have a working relationship. Repeat collaborations usually mean something good happened in the room the first time.

The title also sounds like it was named by someone with a sense of humour, who knows that the bass is the whole point and enjoys pretending otherwise.

It suits the sort of night when you are in good company and not taking anything too seriously, a gathering where a joke and a heavy low end can share the same space.
