DrummeRTee924 – Drums & Percs 100, Ft. SilverDeep838 & Djy School Boy

Why a hundred? That is the question the title leaves hanging, and I enjoy that. It could point to a milestone, a count, a tempo or just a lucky number the team liked. I will not pretend to know which one, but the figure gives the record a feeling of scale, like a project that has been building for a while and finally hit a round number. In Nigeria we love a round number. A hundred days, a hundred thousand streams, a hundred percent, it always sounds like an achievement.

The two words before it are drum talk, the vocabulary of someone who lives around rhythm. Drums & Percs 100 sits on the album The Upcomings, alongside a set of records that share the same circle of names. SilverDeep838 and Djy School Boy join the credit, and the shorthand in the title tells you it was named by people who speak this language every day.

There is something warm about a title that sounds like a studio folder name. It feels honest, with no attempt to dress itself up.

For the listener who pays attention to the rhythm section before anything else, the kind of person who taps the table without knowing it, this is a record to look out for when the mood calls for movement.
