DrummeRTee924 – Hayy Bass Ft. Youngckrazy & Mavula108

The “Hayy” at the front is what grabs me. It is the kind of call you make to get attention in a noisy place, a shout across a crowded room, a way of announcing that something has arrived. Put it next to the word bass and the title becomes a welcome to low frequencies, as if the bass were a person walking in late and everybody turning to look.

That is a fun way to name a record, and it tells you the people behind it are not taking themselves too seriously. Three names sharing one credit also says something. Collaborations like this usually come from people who already know each other, who have been in the same studio, the same WhatsApp group or the same circle of friends. Hayy Bass is one of the tracks on The Upcomings, an album whose name promises fresh voices and new energy.

There is something very Nigerian and South African about how a single exclamation can carry a whole mood. Nobody needs a paragraph of explanation when a short word can do the job. The title works the same way, quick, loud and easy to repeat.

If you have ever been at a party where the DJ shifts the energy and everyone suddenly looks up from their phones, you already understand the feeling the title is chasing. It belongs in that moment, when the room is waking up and someone is shouting for more.
