LUCKI – Knew What It Was
Hindsight lives in this title. LUCKI named a Last Laugh archive tape record knew what it was, which sounds like somebody admitting they saw the signs early.
Everyone has been there. A relationship that looked good but felt wrong from the first week. A business deal with too many promises. A friend who always disappeared when it was time to pay. In Naija we say I no dey blind, I sabi, and the point is that the warning was there all along.
Saying you knew what it was carries a quiet kind of pain. It means you understood the situation and went ahead anyway, either because you hoped you were wrong or because the moment was too good to refuse. The past tense does a lot of work here, because it shifts the mood from confusion to regret, or maybe acceptance.
The interesting part is that knowing does not stop anybody from walking into things. That is true for money, love and loyalty. We read the signs, we take the risk, and later we pretend to be shocked. A title like this is honest about that habit.
LUCKI is a Chicago rapper with a calm, understated way of presenting himself, so the reflective tone fits. It is a good record to keep for those evenings when you replay old decisions and wonder what you would change.
