LUCKI – Psycho Truck

If you have ever driven the Lagos Ibadan expressway, you already have a picture. Tankers and trailers moving like they own the road, brakes that seem optional, a driver who looks calm while everybody else is praying. A truck out of control is a very Nigerian kind of fear.

That is why a psycho truck makes such a strong image. It is heavy, fast and has no interest in the people around it. Put that on a song title and you get a feeling of danger and momentum straight away. It could describe a person, a mood or a whole week that would not slow down.

In American rap, trucks and big vehicles also carry status, so the title can work on two levels. One is about power and show. The other is about chaos. LUCKI has not spelled out which one he means in the name, and leaving that open is a good move because both readings are fun to think about.

Anyone who likes a title with a bit of menace will find something here. It is the kind of name that makes you wonder how the record behaves before you hear it.
