LUCKI – High Together
The title describes a shared state. On high together, LUCKI gives a Last Laugh archive tape record a name about two people sitting inside the same mood.
Think about the everyday version. Two friends on a balcony while the generator hums. A couple in a parked car with no plan for the evening. Whether the feeling is literal or just the glow of a good night, the situation is familiar and does not need much explaining.
A lot of songs about being high together are really about company, about not being alone in whatever you are feeling. That is a different thing from the usual lonely approach to the subject. Most rap in this lane focuses on one person and his own head, so the word together stands out in the title.
LUCKI is from Chicago, and his style leans towards hazy and melodic rap, so it is not hard to imagine the type of atmosphere the title is pointing to. Still, the strongest thing here is the idea, since it speaks to anyone who has shared a quiet moment with somebody they trust.
It is a record for late evenings, small rooms and people who do not need to talk much. Nothing in the title is loud, and that restraint is part of its appeal.
