Mr JazziQ – Nostalgia Ft. Thesiix

Think about how that feeling arrives. A street you grew up on, a school uniform in an old photo, a tune that was playing the year you finished secondary school. Nobody plans it. It simply walks in and sits beside you, and for a few minutes the present feels a little less urgent.

Mr JazziQ is a South African producer working in the amapiano space, so a title like Nostalgia gives the listener a theme to hold while the groove does its work. I will not pretend to know how the record is built or what Thesiix brings to it, but the pairing of producer and guest tells you this is a collaboration, and a collaboration around memory usually leaves room for each listener to bring their own.

What I like is the plain confidence of a one-word title. It does not explain itself and does not need to. It is a good fit for a late afternoon drive, or an evening at home when an old name pops up on your phone and you decide to call.
