Fredo Bang – Days

Look at how the title is built. It is plural, which means it is not about one memorable moment. It is about stretches of time that run together, the kind where Monday and Thursday feel like the same morning. In Nigeria we know that feeling well, between traffic, light going off and trying to make sure the month does not finish before the money does.

A rapper can take that idea in many directions. It could be gratitude for how far he has come, or it could be a look back at when things were difficult. Days is flexible enough to hold either mood, and I would rather listen first than decide for him. What I can say is that the album title already tells you the emotional range he is working in, from laughter to tears.

That is why a simple word like this can be more interesting than it looks. It invites the listener to attach their own calendar to it. A student counting down to exams, a worker stuck in the same routine and a man remembering old friends who are no longer around could all hear their own situation in it, and that is the quiet strength of a title this plain.
