Europe – Takin It Back

Mathew Cooker

reaches back with Takin It Back, a title that immediately raises the idea of reclaiming something that was lost, given away, taken or simply left behind.

Taking something back can mean many things. It could be confidence after a difficult period, control after letting somebody else make all the decisions, or even a relationship that someone wants another chance with. The phrase is short, but there is a sense of action inside it. Somebody has decided that whatever happened before does not have to be the final word.

The track is part of Come This Madness, and the title fits naturally into a project that leaves room for questions about difficult situations and personal reactions. Takin It Back does not sound like someone sitting quietly with a problem. There is a decision in those words. Something has happened, and now there is an intention to change what comes next.

There is also a difference between wanting something back and actually being ready to go after it. That is where the phrase becomes interesting. People often talk about reclaiming their lives after disappointment, but doing so can require admitting that something went wrong in the first place. Sometimes the first step is simply deciding that you are no longer comfortable with how things have been.

That makes the subject easy to connect with. Everyone has something they wish they had handled differently or something they feel they lost along the way. The idea here is not necessarily about returning to the past exactly as it was. It can also mean taking back the parts of yourself that disappeared while dealing with everything else.
