Ayaka Ozubulu – Favour Magnet

Promise

Some phrases sound like a prayer and a boast at once, and Favour Magnet from does exactly that.

Favour is one of the most used words in Nigerian church and street talk. We pray for it before interviews, thank God for it after contracts are signed, and say “favour no dey carry last” when somebody gets a door opened that others had been knocking on for years. Pairing it with magnet turns a request into an identity. Nobody is asking for favour here. The title says it is already drawn to the person, the way iron filings move toward a pull they cannot resist.

That is what makes it interesting to me. It can be read as faith, as confidence or as playful bragging, and the same words land differently depending on who says them and how. A trader announcing it at a good market, a graduate after a job offer and a friend teasing someone who always gets lucky would all mean slightly different things. I will not guess which tone the record takes. Favour Magnet is also catchy as a phrase, short enough to type under a photo or shout across a party.

The artist name carries a small detail too. Ayaka Ozubulu points to Ozubulu, a town in Anambra State, and a title this full of faith and swagger fits the way many Igbo celebrations mix thanksgiving with pride. I will leave the details of the sound to the listener.

It suits the morning after good news, when you walk out the door sure that the day is already leaning your way.
