Tracy – Fake Ones Ft. Xduppy, Mr Seven Keys & Lethiwe Sibiya

The title is in plain English, and it needs no translation in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt. We all know the fake friend who smiles at your face and talks behind your back, the one who celebrates only when you are broke and disappears when you rise. We have sayings for them, jokes about them and a long memory when they show their true colours.

Fake Ones also works beyond friendship. It can mean fake love, fake loyalty, fake success shown off on social media. In a time when everyone is posting their best life, the idea feels sharper than ever. The plural form is interesting, because it suggests more than one person, a whole group that the speaker has learned to see through.

The record sits on AZALONDWE, with Xduppy, Mr Seven Keys and Lethiwe Sibiya joining Tracy on the credit. Having several voices on a song about people who cannot be trusted creates a nice picture, a circle of friends who have all been through the same thing and are now comparing notes.

It suits the day you finally clean up your contact list and realise how few people were ever really on your side.
