UZONDI – Angisayisebenzi
Quitting something is never as easy as people claim, and a title can capture that in one word. UZONDI does it with Angisayisebenzi on WENKULUNKULU.
In isiZulu, the title carries the idea of “no longer”, with the speaker saying they are no longer working or using something. What that something is stays open. It could be a job, a habit, a way of thinking or a relationship that once took up all your energy. The ending of the word suggests a thing that used to be in regular use and has now been put down.
That is where it connects with real life. Plenty of people have a moment when they simply stop. Stop answering a certain number, stop going to a place, stop pretending a plan is still alive. Nobody announces it, and often it is only after months that you notice you have moved on without making a speech.
The title has a calm firmness to it that I like. It does not shout. It states a fact about where the speaker is now, and that is often stronger than a long list of reasons. Anyone who has had to walk away from something comfortable knows how quiet that decision can feel.
For listeners who are in the middle of letting something go, Angisayisebenzi sounds like permission to say it out loud.
