Fredo Bang – Today

One word titles carry a lot. This one talks about the present, the stretch of hours you actually have, with no promise about tomorrow. For anybody who has had to hustle through a hard season, that is a familiar way of thinking. You wake up, you deal with what is in front of you, and you hope the next morning is kinder.

Fredo Bang comes out of Baton Rouge, a city whose rap scene tends to speak plainly about survival and consequences. Placed on an album called Laugh Now Cry Later, Today sits naturally beside the idea that enjoyment and pain live very close to each other. What I like is how plain the choice is. No long phrase, no clever wordplay, just the day itself.

That makes it easy to relate to. Everybody has a day that felt bigger than the rest, a day you made a decision, forgave somebody or finally stopped waiting for a call that was never coming. A record built around that kind of moment makes the most sense late in the evening, when you are replaying your own week and wondering what you would do differently.
