Kota Embassy – Oldies Ft. SoulPK, Nimrod Pitso & Nkateko Tshabalala

The word itself is simple, but it starts an argument. What counts as an oldie depends on who you ask. For a teenager it might be last year’s hit, for a parent it is the records played at their wedding, and for a grandfather it is something nobody has heard in decades. That is what makes the title so human.

SoulPK joins Nimrod Pitso and Nkateko Tshabalala on the credits, and the project is Grootman Series II. Nostalgia works best when different people share it, so a group of collaborators fits the theme well. It feels like friends trading memories at a barbecue.

There is something sweet about a young generation of artists paying respect to older music, and the title does that without being preachy. It tells you the writers still have time for the songs that raised them, and are not in a hurry to leave them behind.

This is a record for long drives, family gatherings and late evenings when someone says “remember this one?” and the whole room goes quiet to listen.
