Kota Embassy – Malcom X Ft. Tiego Laz, Nimrod Pitso & Nkateko Tshabalala

The name immediately brings to mind Malcolm X, the American civil rights leader whose words still get quoted today. His name stands for confidence, struggle and speaking plainly. When a song borrows that kind of name, listeners naturally start wondering what the writers want to say about strength or identity.

It could also be a nickname, because we all know someone whose friends gave them a big name for their attitude. A boy who always has something to say at the junction, or a man nobody dares to cross. Both readings are possible, and that open question is part of the appeal.

The track sits on Grootman Series II alongside a long list of collaborators, and this one keeps the credit list shorter, with only three guests. That small circle gives the title room to stand out. In a project with so many names, a single recognisable figure on the tracklist works like a headline.

Malcom X is a record you play when you are in a serious, reflective mood but still want company, perhaps with friends who enjoy a debate about history, heroes and what it costs to stand your ground.
