King Wazza – Asjabule Ft. Maningidemc, Njabzin Daking, Theodesoul, Ndibo Ndibs, Macasset

The title is a call to be happy together, something like let us rejoice. Nigerians will recognise the spirit immediately because we have an entire culture of celebration, from naming ceremonies to owambe weekends where aso ebi is mandatory and the jollof never stops coming. Happiness here is a group activity, never a private one.

The size of the guest list suits that idea. Five collaborators on one song means a bigger circle, and a bigger circle fits a title that speaks in the plural. If someone called for a small private moment, five guests would feel crowded. For a call to celebrate, they feel exactly right.

Life has a way of piling up responsibilities, and sometimes the best thing a record can do is give permission to relax. Asjabule sounds like a title for the end of a long week, the first Friday after payday or a family gathering where the old arguments are put aside for a few hours.
