John Legend – Daylight
Mornings carry hope for most people, and John Legend reaches for that feeling with Daylight, from the Muse album.
Daylight is more than the hours between sunrise and sunset. In everyday speech it stands for clarity, relief and the end of a hard night. People say a problem has come to light, or that things look better in the morning, and anybody who has waited through a long difficult night knows the comfort of that first sunrise.
In Nigeria, the word has an extra layer. Light is something we talk about daily, from power supply to the sun on a long road trip, so a title about daylight feels close to home. It can mean hope, a fresh start or the moment a worry finally loosens.
I will not pretend to describe production details or lyrics I cannot confirm, but the title suggests warmth and openness, a record that looks forward. Placed on a project about inspiration, it also fits the idea of ideas arriving when the sky clears.
That is what makes the idea last. A new day is the one gift almost everybody receives. By the time a friend sends you Daylight early in the morning, you may take it as a small push to start over.
Anyone who has come through a tough night, literally or otherwise, will see themselves in the idea. It suits early drives, quiet breakfasts and the first calm hour of the day.
