Halle – intro
Albums usually begin with a handshake, and intro by Halle is the one that opens the deluxe edition of love?… or something like it.
An intro is a promise of sorts. Before a single full song arrives, the artist gets a few moments to set the room, tell you what mood to bring and hint at the story coming. Anyone who has stood outside a church hall or a wedding venue, waiting for the doors to open, knows that small feeling of anticipation.
What I find interesting is the lowercase habit. Halle writes her titles in lowercase throughout the project, and that gives the whole album a diary feel, as though these are private notes rather than loud announcements. The album title itself is a question, with a question mark and three dots, which suggests uncertainty about love right from the cover.
Halle is a singer and actress who came into music through the duo Chloe x Halle, and this project continues her solo path. Opening with a short piece named simply intro is a modest choice for someone with that kind of profile. It lets the listener settle in before the heavier feelings arrive.
It suits the first few minutes of a long listening session, when you are still finding a comfortable seat and deciding how much of the night you are ready to give away.
