Halle – in Your Hands
Handing someone your trust is a big step, and in your hands by Halle puts that act in three plain words.
The phrase is something we say in many ways. In Nigeria we tell a friend, the matter is in your hands now, or we say we have put it in God’s hands. It speaks of surrender, of letting go of control and hoping the other person will be careful with what you have given them. It is trust and fear at the same time.
That tension is what makes the title interesting. Placing something in another person’s hands means they can protect it or drop it. A heart, a secret or a future can all be held that way. The title does not say which will happen, and that uncertainty is the heart of any new relationship.
The record sits on love?… or something like it (Deluxe), and it feels like a natural neighbour to the other tracks that question how safe love really is. A project that begins with a question mark is bound to look at the risk of giving yourself away.
It suits the moment you finally tell someone how you feel, knowing there is no way to take the words back.
