Halle – Back and Forth
Anyone in a relationship that keeps circling will recognise back and forth by Halle from its title alone.
It describes the pattern perfectly. You break up, you talk again, you promise to try harder, you fight, and then the cycle repeats. Friends tell you to stop, family gets tired of listening and yet you keep going. Most of us have either been in that loop or watched someone close to us stuck inside it.
What I like is that the phrase has no villain in it. Nobody is named as the cause. It simply points to the movement, the swing between wanting and leaving, which is often how love really behaves when two people cannot decide. It is honest about confusion without trying to solve it.
The record sits on love?… or something like it (Deluxe), and it fits the album’s central question, whether the thing being felt is love or only something close to it. A cycle that never settles is exactly the kind of situation where that doubt appears. The lowercase style also keeps it casual, like a thought said out loud to a friend.
It is a title for the weekend you swear you will not reply to that message, and then your phone lights up.
