EmmaOMG – Gbayin Gbope / Korin Iyin (Medley) Ft. The OhEmGee Band
Praise medleys have a way of filling a room quickly. Gbayin Gbope / Korin Iyin (Medley) is the new one from EmmaOMG, with The OhEmGee Band and The OhEmGee Choir credited on it.
The two Yoruba phrases in the title point straight to worship. Gbayin gbope speaks of lifting praise and giving thanks, while korin iyin is a call to sing praises. Put together, they describe what many congregations do every Sunday, which is to stop talking about problems for a while and give honour where it is due.
The word Medley tells us the record moves through more than one song, and that suits praise music well. A good praise session is rarely a single straight line. It rises, settles, and rises again as the room responds. The credit for a band and a choir also suggests a full, communal setup, and that matters because this kind of music depends on many voices joining as one. I will not claim to know the exact arrangement, but the lineup tells you this is meant to be sung together, not admired from a distance.
The album carries the same name as the medley, which says the project is built around this one offering. Naming the whole body of work after the title, with its two halves joined by a slash, is a small detail that shows how central the thought is. It is the sort of record you would play on a Sunday morning while getting ready for church, or at home on a quiet evening when gratitude feels like the right thing to express.
