Babyfxce E – It’s The Summer Ft. Fox BD

Summer means different things depending on where you live. In Detroit, it is the stretch of the year when the cold finally lets go, the streets fill up and everybody seems to be outside. Here in Nigeria we do not have summer the way they do abroad, so for us the picture comes through music, videos and relatives posting from overseas. Still, we understand the mood well. It is the same thing we feel at Christmas in the village or during a long weekend when the whole city relaxes.

What I like about the title is how plain it is. Nobody has to decode anything. It announces a moment and invites you into it, and that suits a record meant for movement, whether the verses go toward parties, romance, money or just enjoying the weather. Which of those it chooses is something only the listener can find out.

Having Fox BD on the record also adds a second voice to that season. Two rappers sharing a song about a time of year can make it feel like a gathering and not a solo performance, with the outdoors, the friends and the energy all spilling into the same space.

It is a record for car rides with the windows down, weekend plans and anyone counting the days until the weather and the mood finally match.
