Kirk Franklin – Hope In You Ft. Davido

For a Nigerian reader, the guest changes everything. Davido is one of the most recognised voices in Afrobeats, and his name on a Kirk Franklin record makes this the one many people at home will search for first. Our two worlds of church music and street music have always shared the same audience, and seeing them on one credit line feels natural.

The idea behind the title is also very Nigerian. Hope is something we practise daily, with light going off, fuel prices rising and plans changing overnight. Saying you have hope in someone is a statement of trust, and in a country where trust is expensive, it carries weight. Whether it points to God, a loved one or a better tomorrow, the phrase leaves room for each listener to decide.

I will not describe the beat or the verses, since the audio is the only fair judge. What I can say is that a title like Hope In You belongs in places where people gather to encourage each other, from Sunday service to a car ride home after a hard week.

It is a message many of us need to hear from time to time.
