Xduppy – Ewe Ft. Sleazy, Optimist Music ZA & Dj Maphorisa

In Xhosa, that word is a yes, the answer that settles an argument or confirms a plan. The same spelling means leaf in Yoruba, and Nigerian readers will notice that coincidence straight away. Two languages, two meanings, one tiny word. It is a good example of how a title travels differently in different ears.

A yes is also a strong thing to build a record around. It can be agreement between lovers, a deal sealed between partners, or a crowd answering the artist back. Anyone who has been at a show where the audience replies to every call will know exactly how that feels.

Dj Maphorisa is one of the best known names in South African amapiano, so his credit next to Sleazy and Optimist Music ZA gives the record weight before it starts. I will not guess how his contribution sounds, because the audio is the only fair judge. Ewe also happens to be easy to shout across a room, and that counts for a lot.

Play it with friends who answer every question with a loud yes.
