Mr JazziQ – Family Meeting Ft. A.W.O & Freddy K

Anyone who grew up in a Nigerian home knows exactly what the phrase means. Somebody calls everyone to the sitting room, the television gets switched off, and you already know it is either about money, a wedding, a quarrel or a complaint about who has been disrespectful. The mood changes the second the words are spoken.

That is what makes the title so relatable. It can be serious, with elders speaking and the younger ones keeping quiet, or it can be funny, with everyone trading accusations and somebody walking out. Both are very real. A family meeting is where love, pressure and tradition all show up at once, and few other settings pack so much into one room.

The record sits on Stance Social, with A.W.O and Freddy K joining Mr JazziQ. I like that a South African producer chose a title that Nigerians, Ghanaians, Kenyans and many others will understand immediately. It shows how similar our home lives are across the continent.

It is a record for those evenings when relatives gather, the food is on the table, and the real conversation is just about to begin.
