THULUBUKE – Sahlukana Ngomtwana Ft. Sne Ntuli
Separations rarely end cleanly when a child is involved, and THULUBUKE goes straight to that subject with Sahlukana Ngomtwana, featuring Sne Ntuli, from the INHLABATHI EPHALISHINI album.
The title says we separated with a child, or because of a child, depending on how you read it. Either way, a child sits in the middle of a parting, and that changes the story completely. There is no walking away fully when someone small connects you for life.
Nigerians know this situation well. A couple parts, the child lives with one parent and the other sends money and visits at holidays. Families take sides, neighbours gossip and the child quietly absorbs everything. Many adults carry stories about the day their home split in two.
The guest on the record adds a second voice to a subject that always has two sides. I will not pretend to describe production details I cannot confirm, but a collaboration with Sne Ntuli on a title about separation makes you wonder whether the voices trade blame, share regret or simply tell their own versions.
That is the hard honesty of such a title. Love can end while responsibility continues. By the time someone says Sahlukana Ngomtwana in a low voice, nobody in the room is looking for a joke.
Anyone who has co-parented through a difficult parting, or grew up between two homes, will see themselves here. It suits still, reflective hours when old decisions come back to mind.
