Fredo Bang – All I Wanna Do Ft. BC Jay

The phrase is open on purpose. What a person wants to do could be as simple as relax, as big as leave everything behind, or as emotional as repair something that broke. Because the title stops before the answer, you start filling it in with your own life. Mine would probably be sleep and switch off my phone for one weekend.

Having BC Jay on the record gives it a shared feeling. When two voices are on the same track, the wish in All I Wanna Do can become a conversation, with each person describing what matters to him most. That makes the idea sound less lonely, and it adds some warmth to an album that also deals with pain.

What stands out to me is how humble the wish sounds. It does not announce a plan to take over the world. It sounds like somebody who has been through enough and just wants to do one simple thing without interruption. Fredo Bang is from Baton Rouge, but that kind of simple longing belongs to everyone, from Lagos to Abuja to anywhere people are tired and hopeful at once.
