Russ Millions – MORALS

It is an interesting word to build a rap record around, because rappers are rarely accused of having any. Yet everybody has a line they will not cross, even when their world looks rough from outside. The contrast is what makes the title worth thinking about. A man can be hard on the road and still refuse to betray a friend or touch a family matter.

In Nigeria we hear this conversation all the time, usually at the barbershop or in a bukka after church. Somebody says the youths have lost their sense of right and wrong, and another person fires back that you cannot judge what you have not lived. A song with this title steps right into that argument, whichever side Russ Millions chooses to stand on.

Russ Millions has built his name in London drill, and drill has always mixed bragging with unfiltered reality. Put the title MORALS on a project like OOAK Vol. 3 and it reads like a pause in the noise, a moment where the conversation turns inward.

That is the angle that gives the record its interest. It invites you to measure your own standards, and I would not be surprised if listeners start debating where their own limits sit.
