NMIXX – Kerosene
Some song titles hit like a warning label, and Kerosene is one of them. It comes from NMIXX and sits on the Strange Muse album, a project from the JYP Entertainment girl group.
Think about what kerosene means in everyday Nigerian life. Many of us grew up around it, whether it was the stove in the kitchen, the lantern during light-off, or the smell that stayed in the house. It is useful, ordinary, and dangerous at the same time. One careless spark and the whole mood changes.
That contrast is what makes the title interesting to me. Something that quietly sits in a bottle in the corner can become a very big problem when it meets fire. People behave the same way. You can be calm for months, then one small comment lights the whole thing up. Whatever the lyrics are doing with that image, the title promises tension, heat and a point where somebody stops holding back.
I am not going to invent details about the beat or the vocals here, because the title already gives you plenty to think about. What I will say is that Kerosene is a bold choice for a track name. It does not try to be pretty. It is blunt, a little threatening, and easy to remember after one hearing of the name alone.
If you have ever been pushed to the edge by a friend, a boss or a situation that would not let up, this subject will speak to you. Everybody has a limit, and most of us only discover it when the match is already struck.
