King Wazza – Mekokotelo Ft. Navaro, Kwanda MusiQ, Real Soulistic Tee & FaroQii MuziQ

The word is long, with a lot of rolling syllables, and it is fun to say. That alone can carry a record into conversations, because people love repeating a title that makes their mouth work a little. Long, bouncy words tend to become nicknames in the club, and nicknames are how songs survive beyond their release week.

The collaborators are an interesting mix. Navaro and FaroQii MuziQ appear elsewhere on this same project, so there is a sense of continuity across the album, a feeling of one crew moving from room to room. Real Soulistic Tee and Kwanda MusiQ widen that circle a little, giving the song its own small cast.

What I enjoy about releases like this is how little they explain themselves. The title does not tell you what to feel, and so each listener fills the space in their own way. Mekokotelo is the sort of name that makes you curious enough to ask a friend what it means, and that conversation is half the fun.
