INKOSI YOMJOLO – Ngiyakwesaba Mali
Not many people say it out loud, but plenty feel it: Ngiyakwesaba Mali from Inkosi Yomjolo puts the fear of money into a Zulu title.
Read plainly, the title says the speaker is afraid of money, and that sounds strange until you think about it for a minute. Money is something everybody chases, yet almost everybody has a story about the day it brought trouble. A debt that would not go away, a relative who only called when they needed help, a salary that finished before the month did.
That contrast is the most interesting thing about it. Most songs about money either brag or beg, so a title that admits fear feels honest in a way you do not often hear. It also fits a time when so many of us are watching prices climb and wondering how anybody is supposed to plan.
The record is part of the Lingaze Liyoshona album, and a title like this sits well beside the rest of it, because the album seems to deal in strong, everyday feelings. Here the feeling is worry, and it is the sort that follows you from the bank queue to the dinner table.
Anyone who has ever stared at an account balance before opening a message will relate. It is not a party song by its title, and that is probably why it will stay with people.
