Damskeybugatti – Ajaka
This one comes with no guest list and no explanation, only a name. Ajaka is the solo record from Damskeybugatti on the Ogwu Ep.
The absence of features is the first thing worth noting. On a project where other tracks bring in Munachimso odeje brothers and other voices, a record carried by one name stands out. A solo credit usually means the artist is speaking directly, with nobody sharing the spotlight or the responsibility.
I will not invent a meaning for the title, because I cannot confirm one. What I can say is that it has a punchy, rolling sound, two quick syllables followed by a long open ending, and names like that often stick because they are fun to repeat. Many popular street records started as a word people kept saying to each other until it became part of the day. Ajaka has that sort of shape.
There is also something satisfying about a record that stands alone inside a project full of collaborations. It lets you hear the artist without anyone else in the room, and it gives the EP a change of pace. It suits a quiet walk, or a moment when you want one voice and nothing else.
