RUNDA – Moriahh
Biblical place names give titles instant weight, and Moriahh from RUNDA borrows one that every churchgoer knows.
Moriah is the mountain in the Genesis story where Abraham was tested, and many Nigerians heard it first in Sunday school. It stands for sacrifice, trust and a promise kept at the last minute. The extra h at the end gives the spelling a modern, personal touch, like a stylised signature, and I would not claim it is deliberate or point to anything beyond a stylistic choice.
It is interesting to see the name on a record from an album called Okafor’s Law. A title rooted in scripture beside one that sounds like a family rule gives the project a range of tones, from street humour to something more reflective. I will not guess which side Moriahh sits on, since a name like this could point to faith, a person or a place. I will leave the details of the sound to the listener.
It suits a quiet evening when you are thinking about what you have given up, and what it taught you.
