RUNDA – Rundyy Sound
Producers rarely name a record after their own signature, and Rundyy Sound from RUNDA does exactly that, turning a nickname into a title.
Think about what it means when an artist calls something their sound. It is a claim of identity, the same way a tailor puts a label inside a jacket or a chef stamps a name on a dish. In Nigeria we say a person has “their own style”, and everybody knows what is meant. Rundyy Sound reads like that, a playful stamp that says whoever hears this should know whose work it is.
The spelling is the detail I like. The doubled y at the end gives it a friendly, nickname feel, the sort of spelling you see in a group chat before it spreads to a flyer. The record sits on Okafor’s Law, an album name that borrows a familiar Nigerian surname and turns it into a rule. I will not guess how the record is built, and I will leave the details of the sound to the listener.
It suits a studio session that has gone late, when the producer plays one more idea and everybody in the room nods before the first bar ends.
