Rybeena – Size M
Clothing labels rarely make it into song titles, but Rybeena puts one right at the front with Size M, a title that sounds like a joke and a boast at once.
Every Nigerian who has shopped in a market or a boutique knows the routine. The seller looks you up and down, announces your size before you ask, and you either agree or start an argument. Medium is the safe middle, the size people claim when they are not sure, and also the one friends tease each other about when a dress that fit last year refuses to close this year.
That is what makes the title interesting. A size can be a compliment, a measurement or a little bit of shade, depending on who says it and how loudly. It can describe a body, but it can also describe a person who is neither too much nor too little, someone who fits the room just right. I will not describe the beat, the vocals or the production here, since I cannot vouch for those details and your own ears are the fair judge. What Size M does tell you is the attitude, playful and a bit cheeky, the way a friend jokes while picking an outfit.
It suits the getting ready hour on a Friday evening, when the mirror is busy, the group chat is loud and everybody is asking whether the outfit works.
