Halle – Potion

The word brings to mind love charms, magic drinks and the fairy tale idea that affection can be brewed. In Nigerian conversation, it takes on a very local flavour. We joke about someone who has been given something by a girlfriend or a rival, about a man who suddenly cannot think straight, and about spiritual powders that people whisper about. The word carries both humour and fear.

That is why it makes a good title for a love song. It explains an overpowering attraction without needing a reason. When feelings are too strong to explain, people reach for magic, and calling someone a potion is a playful way to say they have you completely under their spell.

The record sits on love?… or something like it (Deluxe), and it fits naturally beside titles like angel and heaven, which also pull from the language of the unseen. A project that questions whether love is real naturally enjoys playing with the idea that it might be a spell.

It suits an evening when you are smiling at your phone for no clear reason and cannot explain it to anyone.
