Halle – Heaven
One word, and a lot of weight. heaven is the title Halle chose here, and Halle is wise to keep it so simple.
Heaven means different things to different people. In church it is the final place of rest. In a love song it is the feeling of being close to someone you adore. In everyday speech it is a good meal after a long day or a quiet room after a noisy week. The word has to carry all of that, and it does so easily.
In Nigeria we are comfortable using the language of heaven for earthly moments. We say a person is heaven sent, a gift from above, or that something has been made in heaven. When a title leans on that tradition, it sounds familiar even if the song is new.
The record sits on love?… or something like it (Deluxe), a project that treats love as something uncertain. A song called heaven inside a project like that suggests a moment when doubt gives way, if only for a short while. It could be the high point in a story that otherwise moves between hope and hesitation.
It suits a peaceful evening, when the people you love are close, the house is calm and nobody needs anything from you.
