Rollan Gee – Wetin Con Remain II Ft. Jeriq

In Naija Pidgin, the phrase asks what is left, what else is there to say or do after everything that has already happened. It is what a person says when the argument has gone round in circles, when the money is finished, or when somebody has done the worst and there is nothing else to fear. The tone can be tired, defiant or even funny, depending on who is speaking.

Nigerians use it all the time. A man who has lost his job, his light and his patience in one week will lift his hands and ask it to nobody in particular. It carries a certain freedom, because once you have faced the worst, the rest feels lighter. That mix of helplessness and boldness is very Naija.

The Roman numeral at the end tells you this is a sequel, which usually means the first one found an audience and the story was worth continuing. I will not pretend to describe production details or lyrics I cannot confirm, but a second part with Jeriq on the credits suggests two voices picking the question up again, maybe answering it differently this time, the way friends do when the gist refuses to end.

There is a small humour in asking the same question twice. Life rarely runs out of surprises, so the answer is usually that something else always remains. By the time a friend jokes about Wetin Con Remain II after a rough month, you will know they have decided to laugh instead of cry.

Anyone who has been pushed to the edge and still found a way to smile will see themselves in the idea. It suits late night gist, long drives and the kind of evening when the only plan is to stop worrying.
