Mbosso – Kamata II Ft. Harmonize
Tanzanian Bongo Flava has a way of crossing borders, and Kamata II from Mbosso, with Harmonize on the credit, is one more example of two big Tanzanian names sharing a record.
The “II” at the end is the first thing I noticed. A number like that tells you the idea has been visited before, and anyone who follows Bongo Flava knows that a follow-up carries pressure. People already have a version in their heads, so the new one has to earn its place beside it. I will not pretend to know how closely the two records are linked, but the title makes that question hard to ignore.
Then there is the word itself. Kamata is Swahili, and in everyday speech it points to holding on, catching something or taking hold of it. Nigerians will understand that feeling even without the language, because we all have a version of it. Hold the person you love, hold the opportunity in front of you, hold your ground when pressure comes. Kamata II reads like a call to grip something firmly and not let go.
Both Mbosso and Harmonize came up through the Bongo Flava scene and have built strong followings in East Africa, so putting them together makes sense on paper. Two voices with their own audiences on one record usually means both camps will be paying attention, and that is often how songs travel beyond the country they started in.
It is a title for the moment when you stop hesitating about something you want and finally decide to reach out and take it.
