Cojo Rae – Intro
Every project needs a front door, and Cojo Rae opens the Gen Z Highlife album through one with Intro.
Anybody who has been to a live show knows the opening minutes matter. The lights shift, the crowd settles, and the host gets a moment to say what kind of night it will be. An intro on a record plays that same role, welcoming the listener and setting the mood before the real songs begin.
Nigerians will relate, because we love a proper entrance. From the MC who warms up an owambe to the DJ who drops a tag before a set, a good opening tells people where they are. I will not describe what happens in this track, since I cannot confirm it, but placing it first suggests an album meant to be heard in order, like a night followed from the first dance to the last.
The album name adds context. Highlife is the guitar-led sound that West Africa has loved for generations, and tying it to Gen Z suggests a young voice speaking to an old tradition. By the time a friend asks what Intro sets up, you may find yourself explaining the whole idea of the project.
Anyone who likes albums with a clear beginning will see the appeal. It suits first plays, long drives and evenings when you have time to listen properly.
